For parents, schools, food businesses and investors who want to understand or contact Always Nut Free.
About Always Nut Free™
Always Nut Free™ began with a simple idea: make life easier and safer for families living with nut allergies by creating one clear language for nut‑safe food and places. Instead of relying on vague “nut‑free” promises or inconsistent signage, the standard sets out what organisations must actually do, and gives them a set of marks they can use to show that work in a way everyone can understand.
This page explains why the standard was created, how it operates as an independent initiative alongside existing food safety rules, and what comes next as more partners join. It is designed for parents, schools, food businesses and investors who want to understand the thinking behind the marks – from everyday lived experience, to transparency, to how we plan to scale the system responsibly over time.
Why we started this
Families managing nut allergies told us the same story: they spend a lot of time checking, asking and worrying before they can relax.
Everyday lived experience
Parents and adults with allergies often have to decode menus, packaging and policies just to know whether they can safely join in.
Fragmented signals
Different venues use different signs, policies and labels, which makes it hard to know what “nut‑free” really means from place to place.
One clear symbol system
Always Nut Free introduces a single set of marks that can be recognised quickly, backed by a standard that explains exactly what they mean.
How we operate
The standard is built to work alongside existing food safety frameworks and to be transparent about how sites are assessed and listed.
Independent standard
Always Nut Free is run as an independent standard, with a clear focus on nut‑free safety rather than broader marketing claims.
We aim to collaborate with regulators, allergy charities and industry bodies rather than duplicate their work.
Transparency & accountability
Criteria, tiers and usage rules are published so that families, registrants and partners can see what stands behind the mark.
Registrants remain responsible for their own allergen controls; if they fall short or misuse the mark, their listing can be removed.
Listening & learning
We are launching in stages so we can listen, improve and build the scheme responsibly as more organisations join.
What comes next
We are working with an initial group of facilities and premises to refine the tools, declarations and directory before wider rollout.
Founding cohort
Early registrants help shape the standard, directory and guidance so that it works in real‑world kitchens, factories and venues.
Audited tier
The audited Always Nut Free tier is being developed with input from independent experts and will launch after live testing.
Global expansion
Our first focus is the UK, EU and USA, but the standard is designed so that local partners can adopt and adapt it in other regions.
